“Freedom is not free.”

2009 September 6

Eight o’clock, Healy Hall.

By this point on our monument walk, we had already passed by the Vietnam War Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. Not sure which was more striking, the endless rows of names and diamonds (confirmed dead), or the lit-up faces of thirty eight soldiers (representing the 38th parallel), all standing larger than life and frozen in time.

At the FDR/World War II Memorial:

Ended the walk with the Lincoln Memorial, where we craned to see the back of his head, gave up, then sat on the steps and watched fireworks being set off from the other end of the Tidal Basin. Gorgeous.
